The third round in European Championship is done. And it seems to be a tradition that Mats and team ends up in the Finals at Nitro Nationals in Alastaro, Finland. Last year Mats was supposed to go up vs. Freddy Fagerström, but the rain stopped the two rusty guys. This year there was no rain, but a Marc Meihuizen who was hard to beat. Marc took the win with 6,03/389 vs. Mats 6,17/377. Mats was happy anyway to get this far. And the Final race was really good he admitted afterwards.
- I was very surprised that the car was acting so well, he said after the run. I could just felt the acceleration at every gear and it was just smooth and nice. That felt very well after struggling with tire shakes for a long time and the broken gearbox on Saturday here at Alastaro.
Mats had a no 1 qualifying after first run but finished as no 7 at Saturday afternoon. In first run he meet Roger Johansson and manages to take him out, just about. Both were sliding around at the track, was on and off, so it wasn’t easy. Next round Mats had Robert Joosten, but he red lighted so the win at that run was just given.
- It feels good to have this last round in the back when we go to Hockenheim in about a month, says Mats. Now we’re going to serve the car so it’s race ready for next Swedish Championship round in Sundsvall in about two weeks. Weekend after that its another Swedish Championship race at Tierp and then of to Hockenheim a couple of weeks after that. Busy times here, he says with a smile.
And mybee he was happy with the Runner Up cup…as the winner always take a bath in the whaterbarrel at startline.
